Lucky Strike in the Land Down Under!

One of the biggest gold nuggets ever found was in 1858 in the hills near Ballarat, in Central Victoria, Australia. The nugget was a monstrous 69-kilograms (152-pounds)! At today’s spot price for gold that would be a little over $3,300,000-US! Though finds like that are extremely rare, there is still gold to be found. One lucky prospector recently found a 63-ounce (4.32-pounds) in the area around Ballarat. Of course, he’s not saying exactly where.

There’s gold in Wyoming?

According to this article, there is still virgin ground in Wyoming!

“Because there was absolutely no easy access to Wyoming gold areas, only a few very hardy prospectors ever even put pick and shovel to the ground,” says the Wyoming Prospectors Association. “The few mining operations that operated did extremely well finding huge amounts of gold.”

North Carolina Gold Panning Competition – Sept 14th

The Reed Gold Mine is holding a gold panning competition on September 14th (Saturday). Make sure to mark your calendars if you’re within driving distance of Midland, NC.

It looks like the competition is open to everyone, with separate practice and competition times for Amateurs and Professionals. The entry fees are $15 for adult and $10 for junior categories.

I Found a New Gold Panning Location in CA!

I found a new gold location in Jamestown, CA. It looks like they are set up for novices and more seasoned prospectors as well. They give classes with equipment, or you can pay-to-play at their location if you already now what you’re doing. Find out more HERE.

Are you near Midland, NC??

If you are, you are close to what looks an awesome time Saturday April 13th! Reed Gold Mine in Midland NC is have a BBQ festival! For $17 you get to try a BBQ and side dish from FIVE RESTAURANTS!! YES… 5!! Makes me wish I didn’t live all the way on the west coast.

They are going to have underground tours, panning for gold, the stamp mill, walking trails, the museum all for free except for panning ($3 plus tax per pan).
