Travel to Russia this summer for Gold-Panning Championships!

So it look like a small city in Russia is having a Gold-Panning contest this summer. Don’t know if it’s open invitation, but it would be a fun trip! I would love to see how they prospect/pan in Russia.

Some of the story from The Moscow Times:

A general view of MagadanRussia’s mineral-rich Magadan region in the Far East is planning to host its first gold-panning championship this summer, regional authorities said Thursday.

The Magadan region, notorious for its Soviet-era labor camps and inhospitable climate, is among Russia’s top five gold-producing regions. In 2014, 24.1 tons of gold were extracted in the region, a 13 percent increase from the previous year, the Federal Press news agency reported in January.

The planned gold-prospecting championship, in which competitors will race to sift through sand…….. READ MORE HERE

So who else wants a bag of pay-dirt to pan every month??

Ok guys. I don’t know about you, but my wife is really into subscription boxes. She has them for snacks, flowers, cosmetics, jewelry; even the dog gets one every month. So I finally found one for that prospecting guy (or gal) like me. The “Dirt of The Month Club” from Roaring Camps in Pine Grove, CA. Imagine, a bag of pay-dirt right to your door…every month. Just ready to pan. 🙂

Check out the full story HERE. You can also visit Roaring Camps and do your own prospecting if you’re in the area. See their info page.

Good luck!

Columbia State Historic Park

Story from The Chicago Tribune

Kids love ghost stories. They love ghost tours on which they discover the hotel room next door is supposedly haunted even more.

Then they go to bed and the idea becomes a lot less lovable in the dark.

But the resulting sleeplessness just shows you how good the ghost tours are at Columbia State Historic Park in Columbia, east of San Francisco.

That’s not the only surprise awaiting first-time visitors to the town that seemingly stopped aging in the 19th century. Folks dress in period clothes. Many buildings have been rooted in place for more than a century. The only vehicle allowed downtown is the stagecoach and a stagecoach ride is a must. Hotel rooms are as close as possible to what they were in the 1800s, without asking guests to forgo electricity and indoor plumbing.

And there’s gold in that thar town.
